Alli: On Reading

Reading is fun and hard, you have to learn and you grow as a reader over time. My earliest memory with reading is when my mom read me and my sister the story Goodnight Moon. I liked to listen to my mom read it to us.  When I started school I remember my preschool teacher coming over to us and showing us how to pronounce the letters of the alphabet and we would read the letters with her. Although reading is fun I have a few struggles like I can't read fast and it takes me awhile to finally understand what I’m reading. I like many of the books I read but, my favorite book I read was Bridge To Terabithia. My teacher read the book aloud to the class when I was in fifth grade. And now in sixth grade I hope that my teacher reads us the book Almost Home. There you have it, that's my reading life.

Ahmad: On Reading

When i was little my mom would read us Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the bed my brothers and I would sing five little monkeys jumping on the bed one fell off and bumped his head… my favorite part was when the mother jumped on the bed after she told everyone not to.

My earliest literacy memory is Dr. Seuss. My mom kept reading One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish until she got it in my head. That was one of my favorite book ever until i started  reading. I was reading 5 little monkeys and more Dr. Seuss. I started reading when I was 5.

My greatest struggle in reading is reading. I am not a good reader and I don't like reading. When  was little it might of thought it was fun but now i hate reading. For me it's boring and a waste of time.sometimes I like reading because it is a good book and sometimes I pick the wrong book.

The best book I read in fifth grade is The Chocolate Touch. I liked it because I LOVE chocolate and because everything he touches turns into chocolate.

My goal is to read Lightning Thief because I heard it was good and I want to achieve my goal.

Phoebe: On Reading

Reading is a big part of my life. Back when I was little my earliest literature memory is when my mom read Dick and Jane. Later I was able to read it by myself and, I was so proud of myself. Now I have struggles with staying with my book. One of the books I want Mrs. Peregrines Home of Peculiar Children because I saw the trailer and it looks really good! For most books the books is better than the movie so, I think I will love the book. That is why reading is one of the most important things in my life!

Food is my life, I know.

Oliwia: On Readin

Read, read, read that what you do all day every day you have to read a lot so it’s better to be good at then to mess up every other word. As a small child I got the book The Bad Case Of Stripes. When i got the book I was not so happy because I didn’t know that this will be my favorite book. A few weeks later the book was still sitting there and it was time to go to school and my teacher, Mrs.Kester made a long list of books she wanted to read to us this year, the first book on the list was The Bad Case Of Stripes she read it I loved it. My earliest literacy memory was when we had a writing test to she how good of writers we were and I got a 5/5 on the test. My greatest struggle in reading was i read something and then I forget what I just read another reading struggle is when I mix up b’s and d’s. My favorite book that I read last year is Hidden because it’s full of adventures. And in sixth grade I hope to read lots of mystery and dramatic books. When I got that book it didn’t interest me at when you get a book read it it might be your favorite book ever.

Amal: On Reading

Reading is something we use everyday but it means a whole lot to me. My favorite books that I was read to were Dr. Seuss picture books because for some reason I would always laugh at the characters or their names. I also love I’ll Love You Forever because to me it felt like I will be loved forever. Later, when I was in first grade I had one of my first few literacy moments in life. My earliest literacy memory was in first grade when I wrote my own book titled If You Gave A Tiger A Toothbrush and gave it to the librarian as a gift at library class. I felt really proud of myself. However I don't feel proud of myself when I struggle. My greatest struggle in reading is trying to comprehend or focus on the first few pages of a new book or if I am studying it takes me a long time to focus and I have to go back almost 3 times. But if I am reading a book that I like I comprehend it completely fine like….one of my favorite books! The best book I read in fifth grade was Cake Pop Crush. I liked it because there is a connection to baking (which is one of my passions) and there is drama that can be interesting or funny. Speaking of things that I like I want to read a novel that is a certain topic or genre. In sixth grade I hope we read a mystery or scary/horror novel because those are two of my favorite genres. It’s crazy how you think you know what’s going to happen but shockingly something totally different happens! I also love the part where you want to stop reading because you think it’s to scary but you just can't stop and you get to the scariest part! Your favorite genre(s) is part of what defines the kind of reader you are. I gave myself a six word definition. Baking. Reading. Duck Tape. Muslim. Hope. Love.

Ava: On Reading

Reading is a big part of my life.one of my favorite books as a kid was Goodnight Moon. I use to love to listen to my mom read it to me because I loved it when she said goodnight to all of the objects in the story. As I got older it became easier for me to read books like Goodnight Moon, Are You my Mother and Dr. Seuss books all on my own.  Reading and writing are two of my favorite subjects.  My earliest literacy memory was in second grade and I couldn’t write in cursive, I would always write the words in print with a swirl at the end of the word. It was a big struggle for me. Another big struggle for me was reading.  My greatest struggle in reading is when I am reading and I finish reading a page and I forget what I just read. So then I have to read the page over again. This happened to me a lot in fifth grade. I remember in fifth grade I read some pretty amazing books. My favorite book that I read in fifth grade was Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I liked it because the language wasn’t hard for me to understand. I am now on the 6th Harry Potter book because I am in 6th grade now. In sixth grade I hope we read about Fantasy because Fantasy is my favorite genre. I read books everyday and I am glad that reading is a part of my life.

Aliyya: On Reading

Why do I like reading so much? Reading is fun, exciting, interesting, and knowledgeable. I remember my mother reading this book to me titled Are You My Mother? It was so sad when the little bird couldn’t find its mom. My earliest literacy memory was when I was a small child in kindergarten, my teacher was so nice and encouraging . She told me that I can do anything if I put my mind to it and never give up! She made me love reading and writing more. Now with all the hard work and effort, I love reading and writing! My biggest struggle in reading was comprehending the meaning of lots of big words. For example, philosophy, interaction, and immunity. My favorite book in fifth grade was Wonder.  I like the book because it explained how Auggie’s life was with a syndrome and how he still made friends. I hope we get to read realistic fiction in sixth grade because it’s cool to see things that really don’t happen in life but could happen. I’m reading to succeed in life.
